April
11,2005
Wow, What a
wonderful Season we had. Joe and I just came back last night from a great
snowmobile ride. Look-out was beautiful. The snow is still about knee deep off
the trail in most places; of course there is ground showing in some places. We
also brought our fishing pole to fish a pond that is starting to open. Lot of
fishing but no catching. Lots of fun though. We hope to get one last ride this
weekend. Fishermen have already been fishing the river with some
catches.
The
WINNER of the ICE FISHING Derby was Jim Nolin with a nice 18 inch 1
lb 9 oz Brook Trout. Great Job!! He will receive a wood
carving of his fish , carved by Alan Dudley.
We
look forward to seeing all of you this Summer and meeting many new others!!!
Feb 17, 2005 We
have been busy grooming after the big storm last weekend. All our trails were
groomed tonight, ready for all the sledders. The trails are GREAT!! Stop
on by soups hot and plenty of homemade goodies. The Lake is still good going,
just watch out for some slush spots. There
is still time to catch the biggest brook trout for the contest. Largest trout
taken this ice fishing season gets a carving of that fish. Call for details...

January 3, 2005 ITS 85 is still
coming through our driveway!!!! We have a great base but are still waiting
for a little more snow for grooming. They're calling for some snow on
Thursday. Plenty of ice for ice fishing. Remember about our in house

10-21-04 Wow! We had a great hunting season so far; the
bear hunting went great and the the pictures are being put on our site

opens Nov. 1. REMEMBER VOTE

We
Won the Bear Referendum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
11-03-04 We are into the first week of deer hunting and
many of the hunters have seen deer. There are two deer on the game pole so far.
The weather man is calling for snow the end of the week!! Great for tracking!!
11-13-04 First week went well with a nice 2 point
130lbs shot by Jake Lemieux from Vt. , a 4 point 150 lbs shot by Rick Alford
from Fl., a 7 point 225 lbs shoot by one of our guides Tom Chase from Patten
Me., Ralph Sardie shot a nice 165 lbs 8 point from
Me..
Second week there was a nice 8 point 180 lbs shot by Les Haas from Pa. Tomorrow
the new hunters will arrive ready to shoot the big one!! Good luck guys!!
11-14-04 Third week cold and crunchy hard to seek up on
them; but Don Brown from New Jersey go his... 150 lb 4 point!
Fourth week still no snow so it's hard to track them. Two guys did well Craig
Thrush from PA got a 170 lb 7 point , and Ken from Alaska got a nice 180
lb 9 point . Great job and fun had by all!! See you guys next year,
Thanks from all of us here at Matagamon, the Christianson Family, Don, Di
Dudley, and Tom Chase.
03/06/03--- SNOW! SNOW! COLD! COLD! That's what it's been
lately. The snowmobiling couldn't be better. Lots of ice on the lakes and the
fishermen are doing real good with some nice Trout, Salmon and Togue.
We have been busy this winter fighting the antis. 2 bills
were introduced to ban snaring of coyotes. It was reported that if these bills
got passed, that they would attack the bear hunter next year. We went to a
hearing in Augusta and there were so many that showed up 3 other rooms had to be
opened up. Don't know how it will turn out but from what we have heard, the
bills should not pass. **Keep your fingers crossed**
12-16-02--- The webmaster, bear guide Tom Chase has been busy
putting a new face on our website. Let us know what you think and also give us
some suggestions of material we could put on our site.
The moose season finished with some very fine animals taken.
Tom Chase & his wife Marie took a nice bull, weighing 840 pounds with an
antler spread of 52" on the first day. Pictured here with Tom, Marie and Di.
The first week of deer season started with snow on the
ground. It was great hunting but the deer weren't moving. A few bucks were
taken. The second week, we lost our snow and the deer started moving. The third
and fourth weeks we got snow back and the harvest increased.
Don took this nice 11 pointer at the end of the season, but
don't worry guys, there was a very large sighting of nice bucks this year and
they are still running around.
The lake is frozen with approx. 6" of ice, it will be
ice fishing sooner than we think.
Don, Di and the bear guides wish everyone a very Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year.
09-27-2002--- The 2002 bear hunt is over and was very
successful. With a combination of kills and misses, our success rate would have
been over 53%, this is about average for the camp. The largest bear weighing in
at 365 pounds was taken by 16 year old David Thompson from Virginia, not bad for
his first bear. The second was a 315 pound bear taken by George Hunter from
Michigan and the third largest was a 305 pound bear taken by Jae Potteiger from
PA. There were 64 bear sighted, a little over half of the 2001 season of 119.
This lack of sightings was mainly due to all the available natural feed that was
present this year.
We know of 4 bear on the baits that would have weighed in at
over 400 pounds that were not harvested. 4 sightings of these bear were by
hunters that couldn't get a shot and one sighting by camera.
The majority of our 97 baits were still being hit daily when
the season ended. Weather conditions and a full moon changed the bear habits
late in the season, resulting in the bear moving at night.
Check out the website for next years season and rates: We
recommend booking early for the 2003 hunt.
09/08/2002--- We'll be starting our third week
of the bear hunt tomorrow. It has been quite warm and very dry the last two
weeks, but the bear have cooperated very well. Our three largest bear are 305 -
315 - and 365 lbs, with quite a few in the 200 lb range. The baits are being hit
consistently and cleaned. The next two weeks look very promising.
07/08/2002--- We are booked full for the 2002
bait season. We will start baiting by the end of this month and looking for a
good season.
